How to Identify a Replacement Bearing
The safest way to identify a replacement bearing is to record the full existing designation, every suffix, the installed position, dimensions, cage and lubrication features, then support the record with photos or a drawing. Machine brand is useful context but should not be the only identification method.
Copy the full marking exactly
The basic number alone may not describe the full bearing arrangement. Letters and suffixes can identify clearance, cage, lubrication grooves, seals, bore execution or another construction detail. Copy the complete marking from the ring, packaging or inspection record without shortening it.
If the marking is unclear, photograph it before cleaning the bearing. A partial marking can still be useful when combined with dimensions and an image of the mounting position.
Record the position before removal
A pellet mill, wet grinder or conveyor may use different bearing structures in several locations. Note whether the item is in a main shaft, roller assembly, gearbox, motor, fan or conveyor pulley position. This prevents a generic machine description from being treated as a specification.
Also record anything that may influence the replacement: mounting direction, locking method, grease or oil lubrication, seal condition, shaft or housing damage and the reason for maintenance.
Measure and photograph what is available
Where the part number cannot be confirmed, measure bore, outside diameter and width with suitable tools and state the unit. A drawing or clean photo of both sides, the cage and any lubrication groove improves the review.
Do not derive an equivalent from a photo alone. A visible resemblance does not confirm internal clearance, cage design, bore form or mounting requirement.
Send a replacement-ready enquiry
A practical enquiry contains the existing marking, machine model, installed position, quantity and photos or a drawing. This supports a controlled replacement review and gives purchasing staff a repeatable record for future maintenance.
- Full bearing number and all suffixes
- Machine brand, model and bearing position
- Photo of the bearing and installed arrangement
- Dimensions, drawing or OEM reference when available
- Quantity and required delivery timing
Frequently asked questions
Can I identify a bearing from the machine model only?
Usually not. Machine configurations can vary. Use the existing bearing number or physical evidence as the primary source.
What if the bearing marking has worn away?
Send clear photos, measured dimensions, the installed position and any drawing or OEM reference. Do not guess the full designation.
Next step: confirm the existing reference
For a replacement request, send the bearing marking, machine position, quantity, drawing or photos. SXM will review the available information before confirming a practical replacement option.
